Horrah. Or not.

The kind people at Replay Studios have deemd it time for Reality Television to move to the console world.

Thus, there is Survivor. Classed as a "3rd-person Disaster Survival Game" the title will allow players to try and survive some of the major disasters in recent history. Some of these include the sinking of the Titanic, Hurricane Andrew, 9/11, Hiroshima [gonna be pretty hard to do] and the giant earthquake in Mexico in 1985.

Never seen before game concept:
fight for survival in historical disaster scenarios

Highly interactive game levels, based on authentic disaster scenarios of the 20th and 21th century

Hero experience: save people from death

Dynamic, goalbased mission structures

Cinematic special visual effects and sounds

Original gameplay elements like adrenaline-shock-mode

---------

A Cool idea I think, but also sick in some ways.

Still, if they have to make a reality game, couldn't they start off with something a little less controversial.

I played one of these Virtual Reality games at the Tomorrow's World Roadshow two years ago. It was a Tennis game against Tim Henmann.

Not bad actually. They wired you up to a computer and put a visor over your head. Then you held a Tennis racket wired up to the computer and swung when the ball cae near you.

Good fun. But they are going to need to develop a console that can produce the image without a squillion wires and a super computer.

'Tis a long way off is Realiy Gaming. We'll be using controllers for a while yet :)

How do you avoid an A-bomb, short of being in a completely different location to where it was dropped?

I read about this the other day, not exactly a new style idea for gaming though this disaster surviving thing. Have they not played SOS: The Final Escape/Disaster Report/Zettai Zetsumei, and seen things about the upcoming Zettai Zetsumei 2: Freezing Memories?

Right, to avoid Nuclear devastation, you'll need to pick up the wrench on the wall and use it on the car outside to fix it before the light-speed wall of death hits you.

Bullet time included, naturally.

Enjoy GTA - like player freedom and experience the most dramatic disasters of the 20 - 21th century in independent game episodes.

Any chance of it being great is ruined in one simple sentence.
