Why does it force me to download Quicktime when I download iTunes? Even when I delete Quicktime from my PC it doesn't let iTunes run.

Does iTunes require Quicktime? Because I dont even use Quicktime and it seems to be wasting my PCs space and slowing it down.

Care to enlighten me where from? Just been to the link that's posted in this thread which takes you to Apple and the download file is called ITunesSetup .. sort of gives the game away really.

As I said I have no need for ITunes .. just started downloading it .. jesus 32mb install file .. WTF!

Sorry - I mean it's not actually running on my machine, and as such not hogging any resources.

It should be under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I don't have that either?!

I only recently installed the latest iTunes, and as I said, I haven't edited the registry at all.

Not that I doubt you... I just find it strange that it's not there.

Sorry, that's the Tray icon, there's another QT process which does nothing called qttask.exe, which is the one I meant.

Are you sure it's that drastic? I'm sure you can disable it from within the preferences accessed from the tray icon.

It certainly doesn't run on my machine, and I've never had to tinker with the registry to do it.

I tried recently and it came bundled with iTunes5. Fortunately I had an older installer and just updated once it'd been installed...

Up until the last version of iTunes, you could opt not to install QT. They've now made it part of iTunes tp enable integration of movie playback from the iTunes Store.

The only resource hog from QT is QTtray.exe (iirc that's what it's called) which is a start up processess which needs disabling via regedit and deleting from the QT directory. Other then that, you'll never notice it.
