If he wasn't a football legend he wouldn't be in the news all the time.
I'm sure there's more than one person who has had a liver transplant and gone back to drinking (at least 1 other in the world, SURELY), but you don't hear about otehr people becuase they're not famous.
He's a football legend, that's what he's known best for, so yeah, put it in.

Hey, I didn't say I was sympathetic, far from it, but it's basically for (stupid) people who don't know that George Best was once a footballer.
If it was say, Maradona in an article, it'd still say "football legend Diego Maradona is now FAT"
