So, it is crunch time for the 3 drivers in with a shout of the Drivers Championship. Who will reign supreme? It's also down to the final 2 players in the Prediction Championship. Who will become the new champion? We'll find out right now!

Qualifying was, of course, in wet conditions and that means one mistake and you are in the wall. There were no real incidents to speak of, except Sato getting a really poor time in his Williams.

The Championship battle means that all eyes were focused on Pizzonia, Barrichello and Alonso. Alonso would have to be at the front to get the 2nd place he needed but things were not looking good after qualifying. He only managed 12th but miracles do happen and he need one from there.

Barrichello needs to get at least 5th and he is going to need a bit of help as he only managed 15th on the grid. 5th is easier to get so he'll have to take any opportunity to pass and have a great strategy.

Pizzonia just needs to hope that neither of his rivals gets the points they require because being down in 20th does not look for any kind of points finish to kill the title race off once and for all.

In pole position was Jenson Button, his 3rd pole position of the year and his 6th career pole position. Results have not been kind to Button but he could end the season on a high. On the front row with Button is Firman, out of the title race but looking to cement Jordan's 2nd place in the Constructors and move himself up the Drivers table. 3rd is Button's teammate Pantano with a big points haul for BAR looking good. 4th is De La Rosa driving to impress potential employers next season. 5th is Montoya who saw his challenge fade but could still make the top 5 in the Drivers Championship. 6th and 8th are the Minardi teammates of Verstappen and Baumgartner. In the Minardi sandwich is Raikkonen in 7th.

Full Qualifying Results:

1st Button (Der Nazi) 1m32.127s
2nd Firman (Notorious Biggles) 1m32.165s - (+0.038s)
3rd Pantano (Chris) 1m32.300s - (+0.173s)
4th De La Rosa (Virtuoso) 1m32.313s - (+0.186s)
5th Montoya (Afrojoe) 1m32.314s - (+0.187s)
6th Verstappen (Jae) 1m32.331s - (+0.204s)
7th Raikkonen (Ineedsleep) 1m32.343s - (+0.216s)
8th Baumgartner (Grandprix) 1m32.365s - (+0.238s)
9th R Schumacher (Clazon) 1m32.375s - (+0.248s)
10th Panis (Foreman) 1m32.389s - (+0.262s)
11th Fisichella (Badgerman) 1m32.391s - (+0.264s)
12th Alonso (Jules) 1m32.478s - (+0.351s)
13th M Schumacher (Vampyr) 1m32.491s - (+0.364s)
14th Karthikeyan (Ortega) 1m32.496s - (+0.369s)
15th Barrichello (Lipe) 1m32.520s - (+0.393s)
16th Webber (Shelljed) 1m32.531s - (+0.404s)
17th Villeneuve (Mike Swade) 1m32.537s - (+0.410s)
18th Heidfeld (Shadow) 1m32.556s - (+0.429s)
19th Klien (Figo) 1m32.626s - (+0.499s)
20th Pizzonia (Icarus) 1m32.759s - (+0.632s)
21st Salo (Biggie Little) 1m33.331s - (+1.204s)
22nd Sato (Poopots) 1m42.179s - (+10.152s)

With qualifying now in the books, it all comes down to this, the final race of the season to determine the destination of the World Championship!

The race gets underway and it's Button who holds onto the lead while the race get into single file behind him as they head round the twisty streets of Monaco. Button wasn't hanging around and his lead began to increase rapidly.

The first retirement was on lap 4 when Firman, maybe due to contact with one of the many barriers around the track, saw his left rear suspension break and he pulled out of the way from 4th place.

Barrichello certainly wasn't hanging around as he moved up 2 places off the start and was hunting down his competitor for the Championship, Alonso, in 12th. Alonso under the pressure made an error on lap 7 and Barrichello found a way past. Could that have been the key moment that potentially ends Alonso's challenge?

More joy for the Championship contenders up ahead as Baumgartner in the points retired with an identical problem to Firman on lap 12: a left rear suspension breakage. The suspension failures weren't over as Webber retired with a right rear suspension failure on lap 26. The only Championship challenger that affected was Pizzonia.

The news just kept getting better and better for the Championship challengers as another top 8 driver fell by the wayside. Verstappen saw his engine blow up spectacularly on lap 31 and that moved Barrichello, Alonso and Pizzonia up 1 more space.

It was getting really close now, with the majority of the field bunched up and Button out front by almost 20 seconds. That lead was all gone when Button's car developed an oil fire on lap 63 and retirement from a comfortable lead. It would all come down to pit strategy and driver skill. Barrichello found himself in 10th after the pit stops and Alonso in 15th. It looked like Alonso was now out of the picture. Barrichello, however, could see the cars up ahead as Michael Schumacher in 2nd seemed to be holding the pack up and 2nd to 13th were all in a train. Could Barrichello get the 5 places he needs? Pizzonia had no fight in him and Alonso had no chance of 2nd.

We'll find out in a second as Fisichella squeezed his way into the lead and completed the 78 race to win Round 19 in Monaco, amazingly his 1st win of the season and his 3rd career win. Michael Schumacher survived the onslaught and equalled his best ever finish with 2nd place. In 3rd place was Panis, coming off another poor season but it isn't another season in last place. 4th place was Raikkonen, which completes a solid season and well inside the top 10 in the Drivers Championship.

Now it's the time to find out if Barrichello had done enough to win the Championship. In 5th place was...

Montoya! That makes PIZZONIA THE CHAMPION! Barrichello couldn't find a way to 5th and an overtaking move on lap 65 went horribly wrong and lost some places.

In 6th place was Salo, completing a stunning drive from 21st on the grid. 7th was Karthikeyan which should mean that he will avoid last place in the Drivers Championship in his rookie season. The last point went to De La Rosa in 8th place.

Ooooh, how close was that ;) I'm glad Barrichello went all out for the 3rd spot rather than playing it safe...even if he did lose places instead of gaining them. Ah well, if I can't win it then I'd rather have my partner win it then anyone else ;) Nice one :)

And of course, top stuff from you GP...you've done this for a long time and it gets better every year :D

WOAHH I WONNNN! Or Pizzonia did. And with Lipe too i.e. aka double whammy. It was a close too between us, the rascal trying to dethrone his wonderful team-mate.

Shame I didn't do more predictions, a triple would have been vritually awesome. DUDE

Cheers GP for writing out these races. THough I haven't seen most, it's good entertainment during a bored phase, akaing it more than worthwhile.

Oh how cruel, if only I was able to get something from the penultimate race.

And ahahah at the prediction scores, I think that's more points in 1 race than I totalled in the entire season.

And well done again GP, 4 seasons of this, incredible. Oh, and I hope your PC recovers from Monaco in the rain.
