OK so my bro is at Uni with his wireless enabled laptop which he uses to connect to the internet there. Thing is the connection he uses isnt capped to individuals, but he only receives the equivalent of a 512K broadband connection. When he connects a LAN cable to it, data still only transfers at this speed. Is there any reason why this is happening? I thought something on his computer might have a value set wrong or something? Any help is appreciated.

Well it's reasonably new, but 512K is rediculous for a network. Anyway I told him to ask tech support on Monday...

Is the computer room wired or wireless? It could well be that their wireless network is configured to allow 512K maximum, though.

It could also be that 512K is all the laptop can manage. Depends on the specs.
