Just wondering what kind of crazy peripherals may be released in the future. We have had good ones like the steering wheel, light gun, dancemats, keyboards, mouse, and lots of others. But there have been weird ones to like fishing rods. So what kind of strange and wackey peripherals do you think could come out in the future???

Could we see musical instruments? DJ Decks? controls to fly planes/boats? Somone must have better ideas than these so get thinking and tell us all.

Yep, they had it running, the guys at creative labs do seem to know what they are doing with this camera lark, though.

Yes - but they've made a good start!

It would actually, and then the point would get lost somewhere. It would take a serious amount of work to get something like this up and running.

But depending on the game, the software would still need to perform many calculations. Sensing motion is one thing - working out the speed, direction, velocity, angle etc. is much more complicated.

A lightsabre might be possible, but consider the angle of the head of a tennis racket, the direction and speed at which the head is travelling etc. Any camera incorporating that would cost some serious money!

If the motion sensor processor was in the camera and not in a software package, it could be done in quite amazing speed, definately one to watch.

That tech demo was amazing!

The only thing that concerns me is the speed and accuracy with which 'freespace' peripherals (my term for them) will operate.

It's all very well having butterflies land on a ball in a demo, but take into the consideration the speed and accuracy with which a lightsabre game would need to function. Or a tennis game.

The motion of the peripheral could potentially be so great that you would need a very high-speed camera - and processor - to acheive the accuracy required to keep the game playable.

The coolest one I have seen was the Tech demo of the web cam for the PS2. It can actually sense the movement of someone in front of it and render images on the screen to follow certain colours or shapes. There demo showed a group of butterflies flying around a blue ball, when the ball was stopped the butterflies landed on it, when a red ball was introduced, none of the butterflies went near it, but when the blu eball was taken away, one butterfly went to investigate the new ball, then eventually the others followed, very cool indeed.

There was talk of the using this technology to make a star wars light saber game, where you actually fight the console.
