Moore's new attack on Bush
Controversial film-maker Michael Moore, whose Fahrenheit 9/11 ridiculed President Bush's handling of the September 11 terrorist attacks, is planning to make another hard-hitting film based on the president's handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
"There is much to be said and done about the man-made annihilation of New Orleans, caused not by a hurricane but by the very specific decisions made by the Bush administration in the past four and a half years," he told the New York Daily News. "Do not listen to anyone who says we can discuss all this later. No, we can't. Our country is in an immediate state of vulnerability. More hurricanes, wars and other disasters are on the way, and a lazy bunch of self-satisfied lunatics are still running the show."
Oh, get off the fence for Christ's sake, Michael, and say what you mean..."
Bad thing happens, along comes a Moore film to place all the blame on government. Yeah, government has a lot of responsibility to take for how this disaster panned out, but you can't really be looking to place all the responsibility there. I'm sure that while local authorities and national government throw the buck between themselves like the political version of hot potato the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Both had shortcomings I'm sure.
I must admit I enjoyed Bowling for Columbine. It actually looked at lots of reasons as to why that tragedy might have happened and what the motivation behind it was. It was genuinely funny at times. Fahrenheit 9/11 I thought wasn't especially enjoyable, not least because anyone with a vague interest in these matters already knew just about everything he threw at you in the film. It also stuck far more to one goal; portraying Bush as badly as possible. And while that's not a hard task to accomplish and not necessarily a bad thing, I never found the film amusing, and it just stuck to that one goal too much to be especially interesting.
If this is going to be the same again, I'll give it a pass frankly.
