It's good to know a little bit about computers, or atleast have someone in the family or a friend who does. I'm guessing this kind of thing happens a lot.
Is anyone a "Go To" guy when someones having computer problems? I guess when we're older and have kids we'll be going to them for help with the latest technology :D
Cant remember what happens when you install an OS for the first time but it was very simple to do.

I'm thinking more from the point of building my own, in which case i think BIOS would be needed.
The backup thing i'm unsure of. I'd assume it's not as simple as just plugging in an external HDD and just pasting the entire contents of C -Drive. I've got concerns about the reliabilty of this pc so i'd like everything backed up incase it blows up.

You stick the disc in, reboot and follow the steps.
Course if you're not careful you'll end up formatting everything, but y'know. Read what it says carefully.
It's Windows; they don't make it difficult.
And you wouldn't need to concern yourseelf with the BIOS unless for some reason your PC doesn't check the CD/DVD drives for a boot disc.
I read somewhere about PC World's average costs for fixing various trivial problems and they were pretty much as horrific as what was shown on that video.

A couple of years ago i wouldn't have had a clue what to do. It's only in the last 6 months that i've worked it all out.
My dad got given a newer pc so i got his old broken one, had a look in it, worked out what everything was and how it connected. Then i spent a week just taking it apart and putting it back together again a couple of times so i could remember it. His newer one broke down soon after getting it and i've managed to fix both of them and upgrade his.
The thing i want to do though is learn how to install XP and how to backup the entire thing. I'd assume backing the system up is simple enough but BIOS scares me.
*Calls a Freeola team meeting to discuss a computer repair service charging obsurd prices* :D ...did I think that out loud...urm I meant...urm...yeah... ¬_¬
