He probably doesn't even know. Most people (like Alfonse) have comitted many sins but dont even know, because they claim they're part of a certain religion (eg. Christianity) but dont actually know what they can and cant do if they want to be part of that religion.

I think I may have gone through a day without sinning, but I've probably felt lust or jealousy at some point.

So it's alright to covet the wife of someone who isn't living next door to you.
