If I format my primary hard drive and re-install windows, will it automatically recognise everything on my second hard drive without me loosing any data, or am i going to have to reformat drive 2 to get the PC to recognise it?
There are no programs on it, just MP3's and videos if that makes a difference.

Good tip. Knowing my luck I'd do something stupid like that.
Just make sure you format the right drive! Both my drives are the same size, so just to avoid any confusion or mistakes, I unplug the one I want to keep so that I can't possibly format it by mistake.
You might want a confirmation but I reinstalled windows on my C drive and it instantly recognized my D drive afterwards with everything still in tact

You shouldn't need to reformat it. I did the same a few weeks back and it was fine
