down one of the many sidepaths in London today, and I saw a smallish terraced house of sorts, with the sign, "Chinese Christian Society", obviously in bilingual. The paper on the front had meeting times, with the obligatory new members welcome and all that. What had me was they met on Sundays, Noon every week. Forgive me if I'm not wholly accurate, but itsn't that about the time when poeple, you know, go to church?Surely as Christians they should go there instead of being huddled in their small village hut.

Anyway, that got thinking that maybe they weren't accepted here as Christians ("after all, how could a slitty eyed person possibly believe in god? etc.), and that they're some sort of side group formed by being rejected. Opinions?

Maybe they have their church service at 10:30 or something. That's the normal time. But I'm sure they're accepted as "Christians", although whether they're CoE or Catholic or what who knows. Maybe there's an Orthodox Chinese Church. Now that would be quite strange.

That could be it. I just found it odd when I walked past a huge church a few minutes before, but they could be different types.

Until recently at least, churches in china had to be affiliated to the government, rather than pope.
The churches affiliated to the vatican were all underground and illegal.

Although apparantly they were working on some sort of compromise when rat-boy got in.

Maybe it's related to that somehow - a small 'church' for chinese who actually want to toe the party line to practice their faith in london.
