It's not good news, it's not bad news.

Baaad news for the U21s.

Apparently Scotland fielded a suspended player and UEFA will amend the situation by crediting Italy with the win.

The Holland result really was a total fluke, though. They dominated us the whole game and we managed to escape with a victory. Whereas against Italy this week we coped very well, and easily deserved the result we got.

Scotland changed Berti Vogts as manager once the decided qualification was no longer possible.

The fact that Walter Smith has turned things around so quickly and by so much is why we were thinking we had any chance of reaching the play-offs.

Changing the manager half-way through was just an attempt to let him build a squad and confidence for the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, it's to be taken as a bonus that we had enough plain arrogance to think we could beat Italy and then Norway and still make a play-off.

The Italy result at Hampden wasn't as great shock anyway. We managed to beat Holland at Hampden in a Euro 2004 play-off 1-0 under Berti only to lose 6-0 or 6-1 in the away leg.

I'm still hopeful though, I'm confident that Scotland can win their next three games, and can only hope Norway either lose to us 3-0 or more and draw against someone else.

If only it's stayed 2-2 for them last night.

Yeah, I'd have been happy if we'd drawn with Norway and beaten Moldova (both of which we should have), as we'd be sitting on 10 points right now, and qualification would be a lot easier.

Actually, we've been really unlucky, as we should have beaten Belarus too.
