So at school the teachers all generally followed the pattern of recommending that everyone joins one to "make friends" and "meet like-minded people", but to me they sound a bit crap.

I've personally narrowed my choices down to the following:

Christian Union
Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Society
Pro-Life Society
Roleplaying Society (Dragonslayers)
Science-Fiction and Fantasy Society
Asian Students Society

What do you think? What should I go for?!
Advice from people who've already done the whole club thing is greatly appreciated!

Actually I remembered I plan on starting an Ice Hockey team because the uni offers £1000 towards any new society if more than 10 people pledge to join it.

Cool huh?

I play squash for my college and that's about it. For meeting people, going out and getting drunk with them tends to work much better.

I'm writing for the student newspaper this year, though. Mainly because I want CV stuff. But yeah, I joined quite a few. Like CinemaSoc. It's crap. And apparently I'm a member of BioSoc by defualt, seeing as it's my course, but anyone who likes my course deserves a kicking.

My uni is too small to have good societies anyway. Go play football, that'll sort you.

I joined quite a few, went to one or two, kept up with none. There's one I might sign up for this year.

Hah.

I'm joining the AnimeSoc and the Golf Club at Uni. That's all I need. Going out to clubs/pubs is still the best way to meet people, along with those in your halls that live close/share a kitchen etc.

I'm personally joining the Christian Society at my University.

Then I have an excuse to wear my secret Jesus wig and fool them all into the second coming of christ.*

*this may not happen.

Choose the Roleplaying society, that way you don't have to socialise, you can just spend all day painting figures in your room.
