Stryke thinks woodgate is great and should be an england defender first team and well if he keeps getting played then he might just of got out and recovered from injury in the right time because he needs to impress for the world cup year. The real coach seems to like woodgate alot and speaks well of him.

Do you recon he could be in the running for the world cup?

Woodgate is a top quality player and I seriously expect him to do well. Best English defender.

Thinking like Eriksson (which doesn't take a lot!), provided he stays injury-free this season, Jonothan Woodgate stands a good chance of making the World Cup 2008 squad, simple because of who he plays for.

Ferdinand and Terry will remain first choice, I'm quite confident of that. But I think Eriksson's more likely to opt for a REAL MADRID player constantly in the eye of the media, then he is to go for, say, Ledley King at, erm... Tottenham. I can't see him dropping Campbell, however much further his career continues to deteriorate. It's just like David James - he'll be on the bench for the Wales and Northern Ireland games; just you wait and see! :I

I'd like to take this chance to wish Jonothan Woodgate all the best in his first fully-fit season at the Bernebau. Real have been in need of some centre-backs capable of matching the fire-power they have upfront - and finally, even after Samuel's been sold, they might just have their man.

I was a huge admirer of Woody's right from day one - when he rose off the bench to nod-in from a corner on his senior debut at Hillsbrough, live, infront of the SkySports cameras.

He might make the squad, but I doubt he'll make the first team for the World Cup. Injuries notwithstanding. There's Terry, Ferdinand, Campbell, Carragher etc. who have all impressed this season, so if they all keep up form Woodgate will have to play very very well indeed. Although maybe Woodgate's experience of the Spanish game will add an extra element to the team?

Did I read that he got a standing ovation for his 5 minute appearance? Who says Spanish fans don't have a sense of humour...

What does Campbell have that Terry doesn't?

Terry's more of a leader, as well

You never know...if Eriksson says that he still wants Campbell then that probably means taking Terry out of the team, so if he's willing to do that then he could put Woodgate in. It all depends on how well he plays.

In reality though, unless rio/terry get injured he hasnt a chance of challenging for the first team. Terry only got in himself becasue of rio's suspension and then campbell getting injured.

Well Woodgate was a top player before he got injuried so if he can find that form again he should easily challenge for a place in the England starting 11.
