I need glasses for driving because I can't read awesomely at long distances and the optician says I'm a danger if I don't have any, so I submitted after a several minute long sleeper hold and decided to go ahead and get some glasses. I get the lenses free because I'm still in full time education but the frames I have to pay for myself.

So, I wandered around and I found myself screaming until my lungs bled "Why the hell are they all so gosh darn expensive?!" It's a little piece of metal to hold two pieces of glass in front of my eyes, even the little pieces of glass, the ones that are carefully laser-cut to my eyes special requirements, are free. It's a piece of frickin' metal and if you want a piece of metal that doesn't cut into your forehead you have to pay upwards of £85.

What the hell are they trying to acheive? Just because they're opticians and therefore failed medical school, much like dentists and Puerto Ricans, they are angry at the world so try and hurt other people by being overcharing anal-punchers? Well thanks alot you assjacks, optometry isn't a real degree choice anyway, you probably did it at a community college nightschool and majored in media and film studies. Gah.

I've been starved of chocolate and beer for the sake of a pair of specs...

Glasses are a rip off, with extortionate prices for what is essentially a cheap good.

i've had glasses for about 5 years now. had to get them when i was in 6th form as i noticed i could no longer read the blackboard in class! got some D&G frames for £120. still in top shape today and the case looks wicked as well.

Only use them these days for driving and playing on pro evo (cant see the radar properly without them). dont use them for reading or PC.

Well, I've just had my daughter break my pair, so off down to the opticians to get them mended. Certainly cheaper than buying a new pair of frames...

Most of the time I wear lenses anyway, but I can't afford the ones that you don't have to take out...

semi-ditto. i bought new ones with the anti-reflective stuff and thin lenses because i do a ludicrous amount of driving, and i could do without the glare from everyone elses windows in my eyes. "only" about £200 for mine though... but i need new ones and i really can't afford it at the moment :S

I haven't shaved or cut my hair in ages.

I look like David Baddiel, only less Jewish.

I had to do the exact same when I started driving Kyz. £85, I think, and I don't even wear them anywhere else. Although they do look pretty good on me, if I do say so myself - but only when I've had my haircut.

My optician seems to think otherwise, and I think I'll take his side on this one.
