Would watching exciting TV programs/films increase your cardiovascular fitness, due to your increased heart rate?

The cardiac muscle works just like any other muscle, (in that it grows stronger when used regurlary), so watching something exciting, and therefore increasing your heart rate, would surely increase your fitness levels?

Just a thought.

With tv technology improving all the time, that might make more sense than I first thought!

But what if he'd screwed the females. Would the exercise bike have beaten that?

No. The Brainiac people did a test on this. One guy was on an exercise bike for certain time while another guy sat in a chair with two semi naked females in front of him.

While the heart rate of the guy staring at the breasts did noticably increase it was nowhere near as efficient as peddling the bike and would not have done anything to improve his fitness.

In fact - had this guy remained in his chair he would have started to spread and definitely wouldn't have been fit then.

Maybe TV stands should be banned. From now on, to improve fitness, viewers have to hold the tv up. This will suit Sony and other companies who are keen to promote flatscreen tvs.

Heh!

Well, I'm sure there's no harm in trying that then...

No, because the main thing about increased CV fitness is that your efficiency of your lungs taking in oxygen and your heart pumping that oxygen around your body to your muscles is improved. Watching TV doesn’t get you breathing heavily, well, not all TV, that is.
