From what I could understand I had to give them my card details so they could charge me 10 Euros for 24 hours of internet, 20 for 48 hours and so on. I obviously didn't pay because at first I thought connecting through an access point was free and I didn't really need the internet.
So, after finding out I had to pay to connect I tried searching for the access point via my PSP. I found the orange network and added the connection to my PSP, but when I tried connecting it kept saying something like 'Failed to connect' so I gave up.
All I want to know is if I had to pay to connect or whether I could connect for free using a different company.

There are various access points in places like McDonald's, Starbucks etc but I *think* you have to pay for those also. I may be wrong.
The only "free" Wireless hotspots that I know of are when you "accidentally" connect to a household connection. Having said that, someone was imprisoned last week for doing that, so I wouldn't bother...
