Does anyone know of a good search engine that scans within a website? I did try a google type one however because certain operations are closed on getdotted servers like 'fopen' I need something else... any ideas?

You could just do what a lot of sites do and link into the Google search engine?

How is the data stored on your site? Plain HTML? Text files? Database?

It wouldn't be too hard to write a script that could search your datastore for keywords.

Here's a free CGI script from Fluid Dynamics that works quite well: http://www.xav.com/scripts/search/

Or a simple php version that allows you to define the keywords: http://www.cj-design.com/index.php?content=downloads&page=7
