Watched a DVD with truly atrocious subtitles "He is drop child of orphan" and "Hey u know what? What u say yes" being my favs, but jesus the guy is incredible. Tony Jaa.
No CGI, no wirework, no camera tricks.
Just one guy doing absolutely insane martial arts and according the blurb and from what I could make out from the subtitles, not even props are used. That barbed wire? Yep it's real and he's doing that.
From the splits under a moving truck to kicking somebody through a 2nd floor window, then kicking him again whilst he's already in the air - this is some of the most unbelievable fighty fight I've seen.
And what's original to see is no camera angles playing tricks.
Jaa really is elbowing somebody in the head, really is kneeing somebody in the chest and kicking them in the face.
In slow motion, repeated 3 or 4 times just in case you don't believe it.
Even the beginning sequence with loads of clayed-up Thais climbing a tree for a race had me wincing and rewinding as these speedy little blokes are being yanked/kicked from VERY high up, smashing from branch to branch and hitting the dirt. In one shot. And they ain't getting up too fast.
Worth seeing.
Apparently the film's pretty dump, but the fights are amazing because the guy refuses to choreograph anything. Will have to check it out sometime.
It's a great film, the chase scene is my favorite bit and the bit with the saw at the end ow-ie.
You should take a look at 'fighter in the wind' it's based on a real persons life and is fantastic.
Also, I saw an ad for a two for one offer on DVDs at HMV, with Hero (a film I desperately wanted to see but events transpired against me) and Oldboy (which I did see but is worth seeing again, and probably again)included.
