I think everyone agrees that DVDs offer great picture quality and sound but some new releases are coming out with lttle or no extra features whatsoever.
This is annoying, especially when you know there are many things they could add.
I tend to only buy films on DVD which I consider to be classics and so I have some films on both DVD and VHS. I buy the DVD versions to get extra features and see the films in digital quality. However, I do expect one or two extra bonus items on DVD and have been disappointed with the last three films I purchased.
The films in question were Convoy, Escape From New York and Event Horizon. Convoy had some still photos of the cast and biographies which were interesting but still disappointing. Escape From New York had some film notes and details of the ten minutes of film John Carpenter cut out. It showed still pictures of this but that was it. Why could they not have added this as an extra? Event Horizon is another disappointment. I received it this morning an the only added extra was the Theatrical Trailer. I remember seeing a half an hour special on the making of this film and it was very good. What was holding them back from putting this on the DVD? Lack of space? I think not.
I find that when you buy a film like Snatch which is loaded with extras you then feel unsatisfied when you get a film with no extras like some recent new releases. This won't stop me buying DVDs as there are many films I want still but I bet that a lot of them will be very thin on extras which is a shame.

Convoy - The director is dead, so a commentary would be amazing. Kris Kristofferson has disowned the movie and Ali McGraw refuses to be interviewed anymore

Escape from New York - Carpenter was forbidden from adding extras to this, as the rights of who owns this movie are still under debate. Check out The Thing for a fantastic series of additional features.

Yeah, I think features are important, but if you want decent ones, buy Region 1 titles.

Examples:

Mallrats & Dogma - Over here, they come with trailers.
The USA versions have commentaries by the director, stars, documentaries etc etc, over 4hrs of bonus material.

Fight Club - Region 1 has 3 more commentaries and the entire production designs.

Personall,I think we over here get ripped off.
