I am no marketing genius, or advertising company. But I do have a fear, as a large Nintendo fan, for the Gamecube this Christmas. The line up for the Gameboy Advance is almost surreal, 3 Mario titles, 2 Pokemon games and even a special Zelda game. This will ensure a fantastic result for what could be the GBA’s last big Christmas.
Yet I can’t help but wonder what will happen to the Gamecube especially with the competition this year. It’s not about Nintendo losing in the sales, that is a giver, it is about the Gamecube being swept aside and destroyed. GTA on the Playstation 2 and Halo 2 for the X-box are by far the biggest home console games released at Christmas and Nintendo’s efforts to counter-act this is Paper Mario 2 and Metroid Prime 2. Now I prefer the Gamecube line up to the X-box and the PS2, but I’m sure I could find millions who don’t have my preference.
Paper Mario 2 appeals to Children gamers and, as GTA and Halo do not, I can see it doing very well, undercutting the GTA and Halo threat. Yet Metroid Prime 2, in my eyes a far superior title, could be ignored by the consumer. With sales of the original reaching 1.2 million (which is a miracle for an adult Nintendo game) I’d just love to see Metroid Prime 2 reaching even larger sales. In fact I’d love to read news articles around the Internet that informs the gaming community that after just a week at number 1, Halo 2 is knocked from its perch by Metroid. What a score by Nintendo.
I don’t expect Metroid Prime 2 to even nearly reach the sales of Halo 2, Halo 2 after all is one of the main reasons anyone would want an X-box, Metroid Prime is just one in a collection of must own Nintendo titles. Yet if only Nintendo could advertise MP2 as a rival to Halo 2 then it’ll get so much more attention. At the moment Metroid Prime 2 seems to have no connection to Halo 2, yet I saw a clever website the other day that had a picture of Samus with the slogan “never send a man to do a woman’s job!” That’s what I like to see! A bit of competitive spirit.
Imagine watching the TV then seeing a Halo 2 advert with a Metroid Prime 2 advert directly after. Suddenly Metroid will get hype as a competitor to Halo 2, one of the most hyped games this year. I am not expecting a miracle with Metroid beating Halo 2’s sales. Yet it would mean the Gamecube would be fighting well into next year. In time for Resident Evil 4.

We always criticise Nintendo.
Even I do it occasionally.
And I worship the ground they walk on.
I think a certain little someone's been mis-reading some of our postings. ;-P
> only nintendo fanboys have their view screwed.
You mean the PS2 and Xbox fanboys have got it spot on?
I think that a little somebody here is a little confused. :-)
as ive said before you all love nintendo too much to

I take it you can't read that much in this forum again. The amount of Ninty criticism is startling.
Remember Zelda is an adventure game that has never failed to hit the top spot and (other than Four Swords Adventures) has always sold over a million in each region.
FF is a popular game, the most popular RPG. But RPG's are only popular with the hardcore gamer. A lot of people just cannot be fussed with Final Fantasy. In fact out of my group of friends that consist of Gamecube, PS2 and X-box owners... only one of them has a final fantasy game.
3 of them have a Zelda title.
Haven't had a Zelda Vs. Final Fantasy debate in a LONG time.
But it is unfair to compare the two. FF is on a more popular system even if Zelda is one of Nintendo's most popular creations.
The best way to decide it is if a Final Fantasy game, like I dunno, one called Crystal Chronicles is released on the Gamecube.
Is it fair to compare a GBA-GC game to the Wind Waker??? Of course not. The best way to compare is to put it along side Four Swords Adventures.
From what I remember reading on IGN, both have sold somewhere in the 600,000 region in Japan.
Now that my friend is a close contest.
Although Final Fantasy has been out a year longer than Four Swords, and looks a hell of a lot better.

Final Fantasy is starting to lose its hold, even in Japan. Over here it has always just been the head RPG and RPG's don't tend to sell well at all.
Zelda is, of course, released on a least selling platform but the impact is far greater.
Final Fantasy for example could cause 10 percent increase on PS2 sales, whilst Zelda will raise Gamecube sales by some stupid amount from anything between 100% (as with Wind Waker) or 300% (as with ocarina of Time).
I'm not totally sure about HOW well Final Fantasy does. But there are far more Final Fantasy games released than Zelda ones.
Look at Soul CAlibur, biggest seller on the Gamecube. Why? Link.
Zelda is a massive selling title, it is up there with Final Fantasy, Pokemon and that other uber-popular RPG as the biggest selling games in Japan.
The thing is Wind Waker's effect was far less than the normal Zelda title. There has already been... what 3? 4? Final Fantasy games for the PS2. Final Fantasy lovers already own a PS2. Many of which have yet to pick up the latest Zelda game on the Gamecube.
Now I could ask you because you know more than me, but you're so biased I don't trust you not to skew this in Nintendo's favour! ;-Pq
Zelda sells well. Final Fantasy sells well.
In Japan, who sells the most?
Now I just need some Sony fanboy to dispute you. :-)

Zelda OOT sold 3 million in Japan alone.
Which is nearing the record set by Pokemon.

As is a Zelda release.
