I need advice as to how to format a pc. Well, I dont really want to format it, just reset everything back to the way it was when i first turned it on. Somebody said I could get a restore disk from my supplier, which would reset every thing back to its original state.

I dont know, who does? Please run through all the details.
Thanks for your help,

Swish

Yeah Ive just had to reinstall Windows about 5 times, soundcard problem..IRQ errors in the Bios not very nice.

At least my 500Mb spare hard drive comes in handy for storing my personal file while I format the C drive. A second drive is also a great place to store vital system Drivers.

Mmmm, Windows Explorer doesn't have a kernel, windows has a kernel, it is the part of the OS which carries out the commands etc. the only real way to fix it is to either re-install IE or re-install windows, but you cannot "fix" the kernel!!

ive had kernal problems in windows explorer and ive been told you can fix it if you know how but it costs money to learn SO if you have config safe you can down load it
the program takes a snapshot of your computer then if you have problems then you go back to that snapshot and the program takes you back in time
great hey
i got this program from the maker ,jan olsen and it is great

formatting a pc is the last resort and takes about half a day.

in dos type format c:
then you'll need the windows boot disk which will give you instructions, just follow them with your windows cd and driver discs.

Just Reinstalling windows may fix the problem, just put the windows cd in the drive open d: then double click on setup and follow the on screen instructions.

Well, most PCs now do come with recovery discs which will put everything back to how it was when you first got the machine. If you want to do it manually, you can download free software/buy some which will format your hard drive for you, remove all partitions and windows - make sure you have a boot disc!

You can do it manually through DOS, format c:, but some people aren't comfortable with using it. Also make sure that you back up any important files and programs you don't have installation discs for, because you will lose -everything-

Apart from that...you could reflash your bios once it's done, updating it with a new one or reusing your original, to reset all the settings on your motherboard (clock, pci slots, cpu multiplier etc). Bios flashing is supported by most new motherboards, but make sure you get it right, or you wont even be able to boot your pc.
