Qualifying: De La Rosa sets new records
Race: De La Rosa completes a perfect weekend, just

Pedro De La Rosa took pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix, which is a record 7th career pole position in 65 attempts, his 2nd in a row at the Hungarian Grand Prix and is currently the only driver to have made his way round the Hungary track in under 1 minute 14.

It was a major surprise in 2nd place as Karthikeyan put his Red Bull on the front row, ahead of Fisichella's Jordan. Fisichella will be delighted to see Pizzonia and Montoya near the back of the grid in 17th and 18th but less pleased to see Barrichello in 5th. 4th was Ralf Schumacher. 6th and 7th were the McLaren duo of Alonso and Raikkonen respectively and Firman in 8th means both Jordans have a chance to close the gap to Renault.

A race full of incident began with everyone getting off the grid safely in perfect weather conditions, with De La Rosa holding off Karthikeyan round the first corner. It didn't take long for Karthikeyan to find a way round, as on lap 2 he took the lead. Pantano and Montoya made errors on lap 3 and Ralf Schumacher made an error while pressurising De La Rosa for 2nd and he slipped 2 places on lap 8.

The first retirement was a key moment in the title race, as Pizzonia's engine blew on lap 15. A big blow for Pizzonia and Renault. Renault's day got worse when Barrichello made an error, speared in Raikkonen and Barrichello needed a new front wing. Raikkonen fared much worse, as he was forced to retire with right front wheel damage on lap 16.

Barrichello then messed up again on lap 18, pretty much ending any hope of points and Renault were now open for challengers. Villeneuve crashed out on lap 29. Panis made a mistake and collided with Montoya, both retiring on lap 37, which must have delighted Pizzonia. There was now only one real challenger left who could make up ground, Fisichella.

Webber was the next driver to retire when his car developed transmission problems on lap 44. Michael Schumacher also retired on lap 44 when he smashed into a tyre barrier. Alonso made the same mistake as Schumacher on lap 47 when he crashed into the same barrier.

That left only 14 cars left in the race meaning over half would score points. Barrichello certainly wasn't going to do it, as a spin on lap 48 left him nowhere near anybody. A Ralf Schumacher off on lap 55 left him a bit to do down in 7th when at one point 2nd was possible. Renault's day then picked up a bit when Firman slipped out of the points with a spin on lap 57. Then he ended any hope of getting back in the points with errors on laps 64 and 68.

This left about 10 laps for drivers to make up critical places and score valuable points. Karthikeyan was in the lead by about 15 seconds ahead of De La Rosa and his teammate Salo, who was having a good race. Karthikeyan had the race under control for 75 of the 77 laps but the last one proved the most difficult to finish as his car stopped on the track after a water leak. It robbed him of his first career victory.

This pathed the way for De La Rosa to turn pole position into victory, the 4th in his career, and complete the perfect weekend. Salo followed his teammate home to complete a 1-2 for MG F1. Fisichella wasn't the fastest car out there but he will delighted to take 3rd place and come within striking distance of Pizzonia in the Championship. Heidfeld has a knack of finishing the season strongly and 4th place here proves it. The World Champion, Baumgartner, has forced his way into the title hunt with 4 more points for 5th in a bid to be the first to retain the World Championship. 6th gives Minardi a decent haul of 7 points thanks to Verstappen. Ralf Schumacher will be furious at some key errors that cost him a potential 2nd and has to settle for 2 points for 7th. Button sneaks into the last points place with 8th.

PREDICTION WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

6 predictors this week so 10 points for 1st, 6 for 2nd, 4 for 3rd, 3 for 4th, 2 for 5th, 1 for 6th and a bonus point for the closest to the tie breaker. Here are the results:

1st Jae 10pts + 1pt (16pts - +0.002s) - THE CLOSEST
2nd Chris 6pts (13pts - +0.339s)
3rd Shadow 4pts (12pts - +0.113s)
4th Badgerman 3pts (11pts - +0.423s)
5th Shelljed 2pts (10pts)
6th Ineedsleep 1pt (6pts - +0.463s)

The table after Round 13 now looks like this:

1st Chris 77pts (4 wins)
2nd Shadow 69pts (3 wins)
3rd Ineedsleep 64pts (2 wins)
4th Badgerman 51pts (1 win)
5th Jae 48pts (2 wins)
6th Shelljed 45pts (1 win)
7th Icarus 33pts
8th Biggie Little 14pts
9= Foreman 12pts
9= Jules 12pts
11= Notorious Biggles 5pts
11= Clazon 5pts

Round 13 has proved decisive in the potential outworking of the Drivers Championship. Fisichella's 3rd place puts him within 6 points of Pizzonia, the closest the gap has been since the first round. The Constructors Championship is edging closer with Jordan cutting Renault's lead from 22 points to 16 and the teams behind them bunching together. The Prediction Championship sees a big victory for Jae but Chris extends his lead from 6 points to 8.

Round 14 is at my favourite track, Belgium, and it's going to be even more crucial than any other race so far this season.
