I am trying to use mod_rewrite as well as virtual hosts, but they don't seem to be working together. mod_rewrite works fine if there are no virtual hosts running, but as soon as I setup virtual hosts, the virtual hosts work fine and the mod_rewrite stops working.

Here's the virtual hosts part of my httpd.conf file:

--------------------

NameVirtualHost *:80

DocumentRoot S:/htdocs/
ServerName www..ath.cx

DocumentRoot S:/htdocs/xyhelp.com/website/
ServerName www.xyhelp..ath.cx

--------------------

And here's my .htaccess file which is placed in: S:/htdocs/xyhelp.com/website/htaccess.htaccess

--------------------

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^index.htm index.php

--------------------
I configured Apache to look for files called htaccess.htaccess rather than .htaccess just to make Windows happy. I know the htaccess file is being read, since I can put in some basic authentication stuff and it prompts me for a password.

When I go to http://www.xyhelp..ath.cx:1234/index.htm it gives me a 403 error, yet http://www.xyhelp..ath.cx:1234/index.php works fine.

(Btw, port 1234 is required cos we've got two servers running behind the router and this is a test server so I don't mind the port being non-standard).

Any ideas on how to get it all working?

I have no idea - ath.cx just one of the DynDNS domains available.

Does anyone have any ideas about the mod_rewrite and virtual hosts problem?

I like it, simple to browse, and the idea behind the content is good too, nice one.

Ooh, quite nice. The edge of the CD could be a bit better, but it all works well.

I figured I might as well use this thread to seek any opinions on the site. Constructive stuff only please - I get upset easily :( lol

It's running on my PC, so if it doesn't work, my PC is probably not turned on.

It could be alot of things and apache isn't exactly friendly when it comes to telling why things aren't working. :)
First thing I'd do is try to eliminate htaccess permissions as the problem. Try putting your mod rewrite stuff directly into the in your httpd.conf instead of a htaccess file and see what you get.
