Why are games better than real life? Games are far less complicated.
Think about it like this. What are the four basic things we need to get through the day? Shelter, sleep, food and water. That’s it, nothing else. But what do we have to do these days to get those basic requirements? Go to work; work to buy food, to buy water, to buy a house.
But it’s so much more than that. We’ve got to think about Income Tax, Housing Tax, National Insurance and Tax returns. But then, we’ve got to employ accountants and solicitors to help us do these things. But these accountants and solicitors are working as well, and they are taxed.
Say you want to move house. It should just be “Choose the house, pay the person that owns the house”. But no, we’ve got to change the insurance, redirect the post, terminate services, book movers, change telephone numbers, employ estate agents, contact estate agents, notify the Government, and a load of other things. All this so we can sleep.
What about water? You’ve to own a house first, and then go to work so you can pay for the house. Then pay for the water. Organise getting it pumped, taps, costs and everything. All so we can drink.
We used to eat by hunting deer and other animals, but now? No, that’s illegal. We’ve got to works, so we can pay some other person to hunt or farm for us. That is his job.
In the old days, life was so simple. Build a hut out of wood, grow a few vegetables and kill the odd rabbit, go to the well every morning to get water, and use some straw as a bed. Grand. But today, in the “modern” world, look what we have to do to get that? It’s horrifying.
Gaming is great because it transports you to a world where life is simple. You do one thing all day. Be it race, shoot or drop coloured blocks into lines. Whatever it is, it’s fun though. Sure, there may be the odd wolf and boggling puzzle, but that’s nothing compared to the “Real World”.
If the future of gaming is virtual reality, I think I’ll give it a miss.
