(I appologize for the crap title. It was all I could think of)

Why are games better than real life? Games are far less complicated.

Think about it like this. What are the four basic things we need to get through the day? Shelter, sleep, food and water. That’s it, nothing else. But what do we have to do these days to get those basic requirements? Go to work; work to buy food, to buy water, to buy a house.

But it’s so much more than that. We’ve got to think about Income Tax, Housing Tax, National Insurance and Tax returns. But then, we’ve got to employ accountants and solicitors to help us do these things. But these accountants and solicitors are working as well, and they are taxed.

Say you want to move house. It should just be “Choose the house, pay the person that owns the house”. But no, we’ve got to change the insurance, redirect the post, terminate services, book movers, change telephone numbers, employ estate agents, contact estate agents, notify the Government, and a load of other things. All this so we can sleep.

What about water? You’ve to own a house first, and then go to work so you can pay for the house. Then pay for the water. Organise getting it pumped, taps, costs and everything. All so we can drink.

We used to eat by hunting deer and other animals, but now? No, that’s illegal. We’ve got to works, so we can pay some other person to hunt or farm for us. That is his job.

In the old days, life was so simple. Build a hut out of wood, grow a few vegetables and kill the odd rabbit, go to the well every morning to get water, and use some straw as a bed. Grand. But today, in the “modern” world, look what we have to do to get that? It’s horrifying.

Gaming is great because it transports you to a world where life is simple. You do one thing all day. Be it race, shoot or drop coloured blocks into lines. Whatever it is, it’s fun though. Sure, there may be the odd wolf and boggling puzzle, but that’s nothing compared to the “Real World”.

If the future of gaming is virtual reality, I think I’ll give it a miss.

Escapism. That is the whole point of games is it not? Gmes are great because in them you can live the life that is not possible in reality. Goldeneye was great because you could run around with big guns and rescue girls and save the world. Very few people get to do that and those that do can not say because they break the Official Secrets Act in doing so. We should be able to live fantasy lives in games, we would have a very boring existence if we did not have some of entertainment. I know that after boring myself to death for a few hours every day that I want to emerse myself in a world where I am boss and I can set the rules ( or kill those that make them! ) and for that reason games should not become like real life. Admittedly Shenmue was good because you could live a proper life but it was different. So I say escape to your own realm of gaming and enjoy.

Right then, you would rather live like the nomads did many moons ago, and live to an average age of 16, spend that little amount of time in relative misery and miss out on all that is too offer. You might just get bitten by a mosquito walking down the road and get malaria, pitty you didn't pay your taxes to have an NHS then, eh?? Oh look, it's raining better hode in this cave, oops, the angry bear doesn't like that idea, pitty I couldn't go to an estate agents or solicitors and buy a house which doesn't have these hidden surprises lurking at then bottom. Farming, oops, your flock just got foot and mouth, no one else is farming for you, so you cannot eat any fresh meat, have milk, your chickens are dead, so there go your eggs and the sheep all lost their coats before dying, no wool or mutton either, shame there wasn't a supermarket that I could buy food from with the money I made from my job. Damn it, by the time I took all these considerations I am 15, my parents died when I was 6 and now, I only have a year or two to live, if only I could still be at school and have my parents to worry for me, damn that would be too easy!!
