Finally decided to buy a new GFX card after mulling it over in the BF2 thread for some time. Have finally decided to go for an nVidia 6600 card, since theyre about £100 in price. I have found a pretty cheap website for the cards but am wondering which on infact to get. Not wanting to spend much more than £120 these are my options... (All AGP cards)

GEFORCE 6600 256MB DDR DVI TV - £109.99
GEFORCE 6600 GT 128MB DDR3 DUAL DVI TV - £102.99
GEFORCE 6600 8X 256MB DDR DUAL DVI TV - £89.99 (cant understand why this one is so cheap)

If anyone knows of any cards better than this for the same price, then you're welcome to tell me. Basically its a tossup between the GT 128 or the non-GT 256. I'm just wondering which one has the edge. Also if someone can point me in the direction of a comparision between these cards and some others, it would be mucly appreciated...

Yeah the whole upgrading everything put me off the SLI route :(

I am looking to go to a 3.4ghz from my 2.4ghz some time this year but i have to stick with a motherboard that has AGP because of the card i just got but it will last me for a year or two so i'm happy.

but then he'd have to buy a motherboard that supports PCI-Express, which may then also include buying a new CPU that supports the same socket as the new motherboard if he's on a Socket A Athlon or 478 P4...

Don't quote me on this, but...

I would go for a card that supports SLI... and then when you need to "upgrade", purchase the same card a few years down the line and have two running.

But yes, I'm no pro on this topic.

When you say preset, do you mean FSB/multiplier preset?
Because if it was something way in excess of what the CPU is actually supposed to be, I'd guess that would be why it's a problem...

If it IS your power supply, maybe it's because it's one of those really crap £15 'brand X' PSUs that weigh about 3 grams.

You might want to hang on for another £50, then you can get the XFX 6800 GT.

Oh yeah.

Cheers for that. Saves me shelling out for a bit longer. With the CPU speed, I assumed that cus it was a preset, i'd be able to set it at that. Obviously not.

I think in that picture the little black rectangle on the right hand side is the power connector, you could go out and get a power thing splitter, i am guessing that your pc powers down because the cpu is unstable when you changed the speed, my card gets unstable after a certain amount of overclocking so i assume CPUs o motherboards are the same.

I'd go for that one if i was you, have a poke around inside to check for a connector but i think your 350w should be ok for the time being.

Well I have a 350W, but I anticipate problems with a Beefier GFX card, since whenever I try and increase my CPU speed in the BIOS to one of the presets, it randomly powers down when I'm using it. Plus I dont think I have any spare power connectors, tho I havent looked inside it in a while...

Edit: This is where I'm getting my card from,

Yah, just found some comparison stats. Just been looking at a few benchmark tests also, seems to suffer at higher resolutions, in comparison to some of the better cards, but I'll not be running in more that 1024x768 anyway. One question does it have a power socket on the card? In a few places I've seen it does, in others it doesnt. I need to upgrade my powersupply anyway, but I'd rather not buy one and find it doesnt reach or doesnt have enough connectors...
