Couldn't you have it the other way round? Coffee first, then alcohol?
Yay, now I can go to parties and mask the fact that I much prefer girl's drinks to beer.
On a related note, at my 6th Form 'prom' yesterday (great night), I discovered the joys of Vodka + Red Bull...shame it cost four pounds bloody fifty!
They used to tell us that having beer, then coffee to sharpen yourself up a bit afterwards, wouldn't work.
Supposedly the stimulants in the coffee, instead of stimulating you, would stimulate the depressant effect of the alcohol.
I always thought it sounded a bit hokey myself, but I never did get round to trying to get shaky on caffeine, then try to 'depress the stimulant' with alcohol.
