Let us discuss how magnificent Pink Floyd were, and slightly less so The Who.
Comfortably Numb solo xx
I'm still erect lawlz

I can't listen to music on its own while doing nothing else, but when it's a live show it's different. You have the visual stimulation as well as the audio. Plus it's live, and it's not just the studio version with visuals. Plus it's one of the greatest and most famous rock acts playing the biggest concert ever.
It's a similar case to when they played Knebworth though, with only 3-4 songs it's a case of picking the obvious crowd-pleasers. And when it's not their own show you don't get the light show/inflatables/incredible surround sound/atmosphere that you do with their arena shows.
However - a 25min set outdoors with no lasers or any traditional Floyd accoutraments was negated by Roger Waters being onstage with them.
To hear him singing Comfortable Numb again with the rest of the band is one of the musical moments I'll not forget. And listen to the crowd singing along.
Anybody that's not a fan doesn't understand the importance of that event.
The creative force of Floyd, the man responsible for The Wall and their sarcastic nasty voice finally reunited after 20yrs of bitter arguments.
It would be the same as Lennon & McCartney reuniting (except for obvious difficulties with that).
There's a reason these guys have remained popular for almost 40yrs and still can pack out world tour stadiums - and I suggest you raid your parents record collections to see why. Go listen to Dark Side of The Moon/The Wall/Wish you Were Here.
The Who.
*sigh*
I love this band, the reason I play drums. But it's simply NOT The Who without Moon & Entwistle. They were a unit, together they made sense.
It's why The Detours never worked until Moon left The Beachcombers.
It's why their solo stuff never sold as much as Who material. It's why "Beck's Bolero" never became more than a novelty single.
Together, those 4 blokes made something fantastic. Townsend's songwriting, Daltrey's howl, Moon's groundbreaking drumming and Entwistle's stock-still musical mastery. It all meshed into The Who.
Without Moon, they suffered a lot and never released an album as The Who.
Entwistle dying just compounded the fact The Who was always the 4 of them.
It was sad to see Daltrey & Townsend at Live8. They're not The Who, it's Daltrey & Townsend doing Who songs with backing musicians. Zak Starkey is good, yep, and was Moon's godson.
But it was just 2 blokes covering old material.
Led Zeppelin had the sense to break up immediately after Bonzo's death, The Who should've done the same.
If I want to listen to The Who I'll put on a CD when I feel like it rather than watch something scheduled.
I still find it odd how people can simply take in a show like that, I have to be doing something else whilst listening to music otherwise it seems like a real waste.
I must be hyper-active or something.
Comfortably Numb had a really familiar feel within the first two notes, which I don't usually feel. Maybe it's designed to play live.
But I would have paid alot of money to see The Who live in their hay-day.
