Got a call from a friend the other day - their PC is running really slow and wanted me to have a quick look to see if I could see what was causing it to slow down.

Didn't have a lot of time so I installed adaware, the miscrosoft anti spyware and updated their anti virus program.
Used them to remove the spyware and then before I left told them to go through the programs list and remove any programs that they no longer need / use.

Spoke to him again today and he says it is still slow. Takes quite a while to start and using the internet is near impossible as it just takes ages for the browser to load.

So before I go around again at the weekend to go through it in detail I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as likely things that could be causing the slowdown - try save me a bit of time hopefully :0)

Also any other suggestions on programs to use to clean up the registry etc might come in handy.
Thanks

Was kind of hoping to avoid a full re-install but I guess its probably the best bet of fixing it properly.

I reinstall Windows every 3 or 4 months. There's no other way around it.
