As some of you know, I'm building a new PC in the next couple of weeks. After looking trhough various sites, I'm now a little confused about installing SATA'a at build then installing XP.

I will have 2 in total;

1 x 74GB Raptor (OEM)
1 x 200GB Caviar SE (OEM)

Obviously not worrying about RAID atm, no need with a single Raptor in there as this serves it's purpose for now, but how easy is it setting them up when building.

I've heard I'll need a FDD? Unfortunatley my new build won't have one and is DVD/RW x2 only. I do have a new copy of WinXP Pro SP2 (OEM) coming and just assumed it would be a case of plug everything in, set the BIOS to ignore RAID and everything would install as if it were like an ATA set up?

Has anyone here got experience of doing a fresh PC build with SATA/nForce4 who could give me a run down on the process?

Said it was a total n00b question.

Excellent, I knew it would be a good idea to order a new copy of XP!

As long as you've got SP2 on CD then you'll be fine. Just plug both hard drives in, boot up from the CD and choose your Raptor drive to install to when prompted by Setup.

The only problem is if you have Windows XP pre-SP1 when you will need a floppy since SATA drivers aren't included until SP1. Obviously not a problem for you.
