Well my theory is that there's a lot of rubbish in american food and apart from the obvious fattening effects of various foods a lot of the food has less nutrients in it and more artificial rubbish (that's useless to your body).

This means that to get your RDA of proper nutrients you would feel hungrier for longer and have to eat more food as a result.

There was a programme on back a few months ago about some Korean scientist or something that was investingating the possibilty of obesity being caused by a virus.

They showed pictures of obesity spreading throughout the world and it appeared as if it spread like a virus.
Apparantly it would cause some sort of cellular imbalance or some crap like that and make fat produce much more easily.

It was quite interesting to watch.

Obviously it doesn't make everyone overweight, but if you get it (it's not necessarily caused by eating too much sugar, although that does increase your chances of getting it), you are more likely to become overweight, just by eating a 'normal' diet (i.e. not overeating).

So some people will be genetically predisposed towards getting diabetes, and although they may eat very little, they could end up being overweight.

My dad has diabetes and he isn't overweight.

But diabetes can be caused/brought about by eating the wrong things right?

So sometimes it's still down to what people eat in the first place.

Diabetes causes people to be overweight.

Hmmm I think fatness can actually be caused by certain drugs and illnesses.

Some old people on steroids look fat for instance and people have different metabolisms.

In general I think you're correct that it is mainly over-eating that is to blame.

Dead people though.

I guess it's a mixture of things.

Genes, experiences etc.

Fatness is only caused by eating (and lack of movement), so I can't see how it can't be their fault.
