Instantly I started tasting apples. If this does nothing else, it proves that taste is purely a form of strange interpretation by the brain. And that chemicals in something might affect how we percieve taste, but it doesn't dictate it.
The brain is crazy.
I once ordered a cheese burger with no onions so I assumed that was what I was getting. I started eating it unaware that the silly prat who made it had put onions on it. I didn't even taste them until I looked at it and saw a big nasty onion sticking out of the side. From then on all I could taste was the disgusting onions.
