But now with 3D in almost every home console game produced, can 2D still match up to the monsterous games that house 3D.
Well, judging on the likes of Viewtiful Joe and Paper Mario 2, I'd be stupid to say 'No, they can't'.
I would love to see 2D grace back into the market. So what if you can only move in four directions? In some games that's how it should be, especially frantic shooters like Metroid, Metal Slug and the up-and-coming Alien Hominid.
Although I probably won't happern, I would love to see alot more 2D games produced by developers.
There's always this stupid nostalgia. Yes, these games were great.
But Zelda II or OOT or WW?
But come on, 3D just gives you so much more.
Pokemon still sells millions and the new Zelda will perform very well.
Four Swords on the Gamecube is also doing rather well. Mainly critically though.

That's why hardly anybody is willing to make 2D games. I agree that in some cases 2D is great; Super Mario World is one of my favourite games, but it is harder to be original with 2D because everything appears to have been done before.
Also, many people refuse to play 2D games because they are 'old fashioned' and those people want the most impressive up-to-date graphics and technology.
