Sony have introduced the PS2 and nintendo are introducing the GBA and game cube. And the X Box will come out soon. Why all at once? Wouldn't it to be better to wait till people are board of the new consoles. It hasn't been that long since the GBC was introduced and what was the point of the PSone? As the PS2 came was there a point I wonder. I'll let you decide what do you think.

No, i don`t think a 2 year gap would work. Companies are too aware of the speed at which technology can advance, i don`t think Sony just sat back and said "lets wait and not release the PS2 for another two years because no-one will produce a faster chip than the ones we`re using in that time so it will be safe"... no, don`t think so somehow.
Anyway, Nintendo has already missed the boat. Years ago it lead the field, now it just plays catch-up. The X-Box sounds like a good idea, but at the end of the day its only a games console like all the rest, and will date in time. I`m hoping we`ll see dual-format X-Box/PC disc`s appearing so that both formats get a boost from the sales of software.

I completly agree, it is mainly about money.

But, if all the consoles were released, say, 2 years apart, then consoles already out will have a head start, makinh it a uphill battle for the consoles just released (mind you, it seems that this is happening already, as the Xbox and Gamecube are coming out over a year after the PS2).

The main reason is money.
While companies like Sony and Nintendo can sense a market for new consoles (ie: if everybody keeps buying into their hype and purchases their new machines) then they will continue to release new and updated versions. Sony has at least seen sense in making the PS2 backward compatible with all previous Playstation software, but Nintendo have a nasty habit of starting off with a new format all over again, the exception being the Gameboy but even their some older cartridges will not work on the colour versions. And it looks like the Gamecube will be disc based and therefore existing N64 cartridges will not work, so you`ll have to re-purchase all your old fave games all over again.
As a PC owner, i don`t try to get involved in the "my console is better than your console" but i can see from an outside perpective just how much of a hold these big companies can have on their target audiences.
