Just picked me up one of these:

Anyone have any reccomendations for

8.5GB Dual Layer Discs

16x/12x Discs

Which formt is better +RW/+R or -RW/-R?

Secondly, software;

I currently use Nero 6 Ultra (6.6.0.13), does a pretty good job so far for all of my CD needs plus Alcohol 120% where needed.

Does anyone have experience of this for DVD authoring/burning or can anyone point me towards any other product?

Cheers

Ty

depends what type of disc you are after, are you wanting dvd+rw? or just r. i would go with +, i read up on it and it said that - is the industry standerd which all things are combaitble with, but you don't get the extra things, apparently, whatever they are. anyway, + are meant to be compatble too so i wouldn't worry. as for an idea of where to get dual layer discs from, i don't know at all. apart from this one site i came across. i got a real bargain of a dvd rw dual layer external. £60!
check this site for some shopping http://www.storagecompany.com/ecProduct.asp
or if you want dual layer
http://www.kelkoo.co.uk

search blank dual layer dvd
i tried to copy and paste some search results but it wouldn't let me

wow, i just had a look and they're not cheap. good look

Most DVD players play both these days anyway, don't they?

Hmm.. I can't comment on specific discs, but all the single layer discs I buy are either BenQ or Verbatim. Hardly any coasters, and good write quality.

As for -R/RW or +R/RW, it depends on the DVD player you're going to watch them on. Not all DVD players are compatible with -/+: it varies from brand to brand. I'd go with +, as the technology was developed through a joint partnership with Sony/DELL/etc etc. For back-up purposes, either are fine.
