Athlete's new(ish) album, just got it, and it's awesome.

Utterly rips Vehicles and Animals apart. But I didn't like Vehicles and Animals, so it's no surprise really.

But thank God he got rid of that annoying cockney accent.

Best track has to be Half Light, followed closely by Chances, Trading Air and Wires.

But the rather innocent, up-beat indie-pop was what made me like the dirst album so much. They've lost that cheery spark it seems, and have sunk into that greyish area when any one of 50 bands could be playing and you couldn't tell the difference.

Is it a legal requirement that that exact phrase must appear in at least one review for every CD ever made?

I've lost count of the number of times I've read it before. In however an innaccurate context.

Can't say I even noticed until NME or other such rubbish started screaming and shoving it up everyone's asses. The slightest tickle of hyperbole, perhaps.

Aye, can't beat Beautiful for a quality summer-time tune.

Elbow are absolutely nothing like Athlete ... just not even a little bit. And much better anyway, in a completely different way.
I really can't see how you'd think they're the same.

I like Tourist. Some good track on there i enjoy listenin to, but there are some complete rubbish in it too. But on the whole quite good.

Prefer V & A though. Much more upbeat. Perfect for the summer time listening.

Meh.

I think they're just like Elbow.

Some stuff that makes me think they might be good. Their second album is better rated by critics. I still see flaws in both albums equally.

Wasn't a fan of the the old album, all too much of the same thing, though You Got The Style Was good.

I've only heard Half Light and Wires from the second but they're better than everything else from the first.

Just as I suspected. The word "bought" wasn't used.

Boring? No no no, it's far more personal and emotional than the annoyingly poppy Vehicles and Animals. It's more serious, yes, and much more lyrically mature, and I think they've definitely moved onwards and upwards from the first album.

To quote from a review from another website, Tourist is full of "sweeping guitars, soaring melodies and emotive lyrics."

And I repeat - Thank God he got rid of that annoying cockney accent. Which could of ruined the first album, had it actually been any good. :D
