Sony is a well-known brand for electronics, especially in the sound and vision industry. This new Walkman is the result of years of experience in the portable audio field.
It has the new ultra slim technology that allows the Walkman to be little thicker than a centimetre, and due to new, smaller components, is round, and little bigger than a CD.
It has a set of rechargeable lithium batteries, which are charged inside the Walkman. They give nearly 30 hours of continuous playback.
Also included is a set of headphones, along with a wired remote control. The headphones fit well into your ears, and give a deep, full sound, with great bass. The round remote allows you to skip backwards and forwards, stop, play and change the volume. It also features a hold key to prevent accidental activation of the buttons.
The actual unit is small, slim and good-looking. Available in silver or blue, It’ll be a trendy accessory even for the most stylish of people!
The front of the unit is flat, with a shined finish. The buttons of the player are situated at the top, and around the sides of the unit. These include:
Open: opens the tray area
Hold: Locks all buttons to prevent accidental activation.
Volume: Ranging from very quiet to VERY loud.
It has an ALVS switch in the battery compartment, which protects the listener from volume surges.
The specialised G-shock anti jog system can be switched on or off. When on it drains the batteries quicker, but unlike anti-shock, eliminates ALL jumping. ‘You jump and it doesn’t!’
Fast Forward/ Rewind: skip forwards and backwards through tracks, and skip through the current track by holding them down.
Play: ermmm..... Plays the track!
Pause: stops the current track in a pause.
Stop/off: Stops playback / switches power off.
Repeat/ enter: These buttons are used for programming your own playlist(s)
Sound mode: Turns bass off, on 1 level, or on 2 levels
Play Mode: Chose from random repeat or repeat all.
This CD player features ’digital mega bass’ providing bass enriched sound for all tracks. This improves the sound quality dramatically, making it amazing to listen to. The headphones, which are also excellent, add to the experience.
Another thing I must say about this Walkman is the quality produced when playing through ‘mini’ speakers. Whether they have their own power supply or not, the sound is excellent.
The unit is very durable also; mine has been dropped repeatedly, and still works, and stands up to most weather. However, dropping it should not be a problem with the included carry strap.
I cannot really find anything bad about this product, except that my particular unit malfunctioned when I first bought it. However, I believe this is very rare, and a one off. The unit was soon replaced, and my new one is perfect.
We have come to expect excellence from Sony, and they have definitely delivered here! 9/10!
