I'm very bored, just at the minute, I thought I'd just get a few computing things sorted.

:)

- Does anyone know of any free Software Removing programs, which won't mess up things like system files?

- Am I doing anything wrong when I shut down my computer, and then it just hangs on the "windows is closing down" page?

Help much appreciated,

Cheers,

Majestic

Can't be that. I have over 130Gb of free space from a 200Gb drive and my machine takes ages to shutdown, sometimes not even shutting at all, just hanging on that screen for an eternity.

I think in my case though, it's down to the motherboard/CPU and my installation. The hard drive is out of a Shuttle P4, which is what was running when I installed Windows. Now I'm using the same HD and everything on a Athlon64.

I'd reinstall but I have far too much stuff to back up.

It really depends on what software you are trying to remove, if you mean things like Spyware (unwanted and not useful) then I would go for something such as the trial version of Norton Antivirus or perhaps something such as avast, search around on an engine such as Google for where to download from

As for the shutting down problem ... it's probably to do with how full your hardrive is - if it's crammed full of stuff then it will take ages to close. Check your limit and see how much your using

I'd imagine you could delete some programmes to free up space (which comes full-circle to point 1) or do what I used to do; hold down the power button until the computer shuts itself down, hopefully sorting itself out eventually

For both I'd consult the manual, several Internet tutorials and a professional computer technician (the latter is the best option) just to be on the safe side

That still leaves stuff behind afterwards though. I think that's the point of the question anyway.

Without knowing the state of you computer, or how you shut down your computer, I cant really comment on this one. Although I do remember having that problem on my laptop ages ago. Dunno how i got rid of it...
