Before you insult me for being somewhat of a newbie, do you not remember the examples of the N64 and DC? Although the consoles themselves were good and viable, there were not the great amount of quality games that were available on the PS. The downside of the mass number of games, was the number of mediocre games that came out, because the publishers could get away with it. This was not the case with the N64 and DC. This did keep the quality high though.
Joe Public now doesn't want 3 or four high quality games per year, but a steady flow of good quality games, even if it does mean having to wade through ailses full of 3DO army men games. 3rd party games were widespread, and the desire to create a huge money spinning game produced games like Gran Turismo, Smackdown and many Final Fantasy games.
Admitedly all of these games had sequels, but the ones mentioned had much better successors, as opposed to the examples used by others. There have been many games that do not deserve to be thought of, let alone published, but having a trickle of high quality games for consle that nobody has will not work.
GameCube has no big name publishers that they have pushed into our faces like Microsoft and Sony have. A trickle of high quality games like Crazy Taxi and Shenmue on the DC, and Golden Eye and Perfect Dark on the N64, will sell to allthose that have the console, but if one dominates, then the others will perish. X-Box have signed many independant publishers, and the PS2 has already a captive audience and exciting games in the pipeline, yet there is no news on the GC front. They have to sign up developers quickly, or it may see its bank balance in the red again.
There was another good game like that which I played in boarding school, but I can't remember what it is. Probably Roll Cage. Oh yeah, it was Roll Cage. No-one would play with me at that. Maybe because they didn't like it, maybe because they'd get their butts well and truly roasted!

Not 100% true, but good enough I suppose. Many people, including PSX fans love RARE because they make supberb games but this doesn't meaan that they will buy a N64 because of it.

Yes, the N64 doesn't have as many games as the PSX games, but the games they do have are super ones. Obviously not all of them, but most. So, Nintendo win the ratio good games:number of games. If that makes any sense...

I won't say too much about sequels as it has been said sooo many times before. All I can say is people have different views about them. Personally, I do not mind sequels as long as ithere is a vast improvemtn from the last game.

Nintendo have got loads of game publishers on tehir side. They are getting a Crazy Taxi game (great DC game), SSX (great PS2 game) so you can say they are getting the best of two worlds, in a way.
