Hello,
After recently changing over from using a conventional modem to using a router I have realised that the speeds my connection are downloading at are sub-standard.
My service is the usual 512k and used to download at anywhere between 55-70 Kbps now I am lucky to be downloading at around 30 Kbps. I stupidly left the setting up of the router to my brother who has probably done a half-assed job.
I was wondering if any of you guys had some kind of input.
Thanks,
Jim.

I should think it's unlikely to be a router problem, as there is no real way to configure a consumer router to 'go slowly'. It's much more likely to be either your broadband connection having a funny five weeks or a computer on your local network throwing out lots of traffic. Perhaps you have a trojan that is spraying packets everywhere, or perhaps you or your brother is raping torrents/p2p networks?

Who is your Broadband with?
Some require different router settings, AOL being one example.

Everything is slow.
Even updating my Anti-Virus is slow and painful.

When you say downloading what do you mean? You mean just pages, files etc from websites or you talking about music etc from p2p networks or torrents?
