Hm...perhaps Ebay is in order...

That was my first thought too. Those toy plastic ones are crap anyway, some science-geek who's a Star Wars fan (probably plenty of them) should have built something by now.
And yeh Pandaemonium, there was sarcasm in my words :)

Ahahahha. Then I'd have some respect for them. "Play with fire, you're gonna get burned...."
EDIT: The BBC News ticker headline is superb:
"Two Star Wars fans critical after home-made light sabres explode"
Makes it sounds like they were dabbling in some kind of physics experiment, instead of making petrol bombs.

I don't see how two brain donors filling light tubes up with petrol and setting them alight is a "tragedy" [edit] (sorry, I know you're not being serious, but these idiots have stunned me with their stupidity. Possibly just as much as the 3 sqealing chav mothers.)
Petrol is extremely flammable, light tubes are very fragile. Surely anyone with a couple of brain cells knows this? If they survive, they're going to be scarred for the rest of their lives.
"So how did you manage that?"
"Jesus, are you dumb?"
