"Safe to do so?"

I download a lot of stuff, and so I leave my PC running Overnight. Azureus is telling me it's been open and running this session for 8 days... is it safe to do this? I mean, the HDD is going to be constantly running as new data is downloaded, and not to mention the problem of heat.

So what's the guideline here? Do I need to turn my PC off every few days just to make sure?

Yeh, due to electrical stress or something similar.

Excellent, cheers. :) I thought that was the case, as I think I remember reading something somewhere that it's actually worse for your PC to shutdown/startup every day than it is to leave it on.

Nope.

Computers are designed to be left on for days/weeks/years without having to be turned off (unless you update software that requires you to reboot)

The only thing that stops uptime is in the event of a crash.

If you keep the machine adequately cooled, there is nothing stopping it being on 24/7.
