Hi all.
Last night my firend's PS2 was playing up. Giving the 'Disc read error' and making quite a loud noise. Not owning a PS2 myself I have no idea what's the matter with it. I have heard people's consoles not working after 2 or so years. So is it just old age and he will have to buy a new one? Or is it a simple lens cleaner job?

Alrite cheers. He's gonna give it to me to take to work because I work at an electrical shop. I'l give the lens cleaner a try.
Worth trying the lens cleaner.
Does it play any games? Or is it a certain disk it wont play?
Also worth cleaning other the vents etc with a hoover just to ensure its clean inside and not going to overheat or anything like that.
If that dosn't work then its most likely that the laser unit is damaged. Get him to phone up Sony's customer support, they'll give him more info about it and how to get it sorted if possible.
