Shall I get this game? Is it any major advancement on Vice city? Is the new combat system any good? Is it generally a big change?

Don't bum lick, I want pro's AND cons.

I'd personally recommend getting it. The value for money is amazing. Kept me occupied for about 10 hours so far and I've barely scratched the surface.

New combat system is cool, you can go to different gyms and learn new fighting styles. There's also a new feature that when you target someone, the colour of the target changes when you punch/shoot them representing their health, which I thought was pretty cool.

Definitley the best in the series. The gameplay has been refined over Vice City, the story is better, the characters are better, the physics are better, fewer limitations, basic ragdol, the ability to climb fences and walls, rob houses at night, have gang warfare, upgrade lots of different skills, drive a van full of old folk of a cliff without drowning yourself.

Hell, the game is facking huge and it is such a blast to play.

Without a doubt it is a must buy.

Pop-up and GTA3 visuals, but what do you expect with PS2 hardware?

Missions are harder, so it's not as easy to progress through the game. I think this is better but they're are some people who just like to walk all over games, not sure if you're one of them.

I like a good challenge, so long as the controls are flexable. Thats what lets Vice City and Driver 3 down when your on foot its fiddly and unrealistic.

Check out my thread 'San Andreas Impressions...'

To sum it up, visually it really needs a BIG lift. PS2 hardware maxed out springs to mind. It does detract a little from the gameplay but it is so kick ass to play it doesn't really matter in the long run.
