There was another little article on it the other day, I forget where. Although I know 'I'm not supposed to' I still buy Pirate DVDs as the price of DVDs seems so expensive, for newer releases.
Although piracy definitely isn't a good thing as it means companies lose millions every year across the media board, (on pirated games, films and music) advertising goes a little too far with the 'shock horror' campaign. I'm sure most people who've watched a DVD classified by the 'bbfc' or who've been to the cinema recently will have seen the campaign ad shwoing the fat, folically challenged, devil like man who's apparently a 'pirate', that's exaggerating the stereotype just a little too far
The campaign obviously hasn't been working too well as millions are still being lost but by consistently upping the anti and making the campaigns more and more shocking isn't a good strategy. 'All of money from piracy goes to the drugs industry', well, no it doesn't. Some large piracy outfits may be mixed up with the drugs industry but not the smaller racquets.
Street vendors and people who sell DVD-Rs privately aren't doing a great wrong as they're financing themselves and I can't believe the money there is all going to drugs barons
However, I suppose all piracy detracts from the media industry and they should walk the plank.
Wake up, time to have your say
"We guarantee you'll have a 14-year-old girl out of school, on the streets and whoring for needles within 48 hours - or your money back!"
It's true.
I hate the west.. you consumerist b*stards!
Do what you like, though.
Me shouting and screaming at piracy people isn't going to change anything. And, well, I don't really care.
Yeah everyone's losing loads of money, but ... meh, so what?
