Was incredibly interesting, the way they painstakingly count them all out one by one, why not use machines? Meh, ah well.

Erm, why? Is it more important than the election result as a whole?
And the reason they don't use machines is that machines are suspect to failure. And the means of which they'd do it by machine would always be hard - would old people be able to figure it out? How could you make sure that no-one had hacked the system?
Too many questions.
