Incase some of you did not read my topic against war and everything it stands for, I well wrote a topic about how nothing good comes of it WELL.........

Here is the contradiction that hit me at around 6:45pm today (28th May 2001). I sat down at my computer in the mood for a strategy game, and then it clicked why not 'Sudden Strike' what a game it is. Then it hit me like like a bullet.... WHAT THE HELL WAS I DOING? I am against war and now I am about to sit down and blow up everything FOR FUN.

So then my evening of gaming turned into another one of those long thought out discussions with myself....

Here is the conclusion I have came to.

1) The game is NOT REAL. As long as I have the sence to relise the difference between me sniping someone in the game and taking a gun to someones head in real life, then there is nothing morally wrong with killing people in games (to a certain point)

2) This game simulates the real second world war and can get across the points of war. Lovely little towns with birds singing in the trees are all of a sudden the setting of a battle and in a few moments it is turned into a hole in the ground.

3) You can take control of all the different forces of the war (NAZI Germany, Soviet Union and the Allies) so you are not the the " goodies " and they are not the " baddies " you can see the aspect of the war from all sides etc.

4) It is JUST A GAME, and enjoyable game that simulates war, its not about blowing peoples heads off it is about being able to win battles with all your gaming skills.

All these are valid points that helped cleared my conscience after that post the other night. So as long as you relise the difference between real life and a game and also don't love killing people for the hell of, I beleive there is nothing morally wrong with playing this.

Another point this game may even help fight against war (bit over the top here) since people can play war games on computers maybe they won't actually want a real war to happen as they see what happens.

Also, Sudden Strike is a brilliant game!

(I also posted this in Chatter FOG but meant to put it here so thats why it is on both, sorry)
