About a hundred pages through atm, and it's coming across as a very imaginative fantasy. Similar to Clive Barkers work, and the closest to his style I've read. Well worth it for the free download.

I'm downloading as I write. Not sure if there is any connection to the Hyperion books by Dan Simmons but it's worth pointing that the Shrike is a rather terrifying baddie in these fantastic books. The first two (Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion) especially are fantastic books: the best sci-fi I have ever read, and puts almost every 'serious' work of fiction to shame.
