Heat Match
Val Venis vs Tyson Tomko
My Prediction: Tyson Tomko
Result: Tyson Tomko
Match Rating: 6.5/10 - Firstly, Tyson's white boots - what the hell is he on!?!? Also, the ring bell sounds really, really awful. Not a good omen for what may very well be one of the worst PPVs of all time. Anyway, fairly cack match, with Tyson faking an eye injury topping the cackness off. Nice to see an "RIP Skip" sign in the crowd, though.

1. Intercontinental Title
Shelton Benjamin (c) vs Chris Jericho
My Prediction: Chris Jericho
Result: Shelton Benjamin
Match Rating: 9/10 - Highly entertaining match with some superb spots. Definately better than their Taboo Tuesday outing.

2. Tag Title Turmoil
William Regal & Tajiri (c) vs The Heart Throbs vs Hurricane & Rosey vs La Resistance vs Maven & Simon Dean
My Prediction: Hurricane & Rosey
Result: Hurricane & Rosey
Heart Throbs eliminated by Regal & Tajiri
Maven & Simon Dean eliminated by Regal & Tajiri
Regal & Tajiri eliminated by La Resistance
La Resistance eliminated by Hurricane & Rosey
Match Rating: 8/10 - Not too bad, but an absolutely cintilating finish, with Hurricane diving off of Rosey's shoulders to get the win. About time they had the gold.

3. Last Man Standing
Chris Benoit vs Edge
My Prediction: Edge
Result: Edge
Match Rating: 8.5/10 - Edge bricked Benoit, bringing the match to an abrupt end. Good match though, some nice spots.

Cue a really long time-water involving Kane and Lita kissing, and Chris Masters interrupting the divas. Lawler's comments were rather amusing, though. Masters squashed a tranvestite, and King Mabel continued his programme with Trish.

4. Kane vs Viscera
My Prediction: Viscera
Result: Kane
Match Rating: 7/10 - Better than I expected, but still not that great. I wanted Kane to lie down for Vis, so Trish had to, well, you know.

After the match, Vis hilariously shakes Trish like a ragdoll after she insults him, and squashes her.

5. Hulk Hogan & Shawn Michaels v Muhammed Hassan & Kosorrow Daivari
My Prediction: Hulk Hogan & Shawn Michaels
Result: Hulk Hogan & Shawn Michaels
Match Rating: 8/10 - The "Muhammed Stole My Towel" sign was rather amusing, and Hogan got an absolutely collosal pop, as expected. One of the highlights was Hogan putting a Hulkamania cap on Daivari before hitting him. Despite their cheating, Hassan and Daivari got absolutely owned. Good match though.

Some guy had a Hogan tatoo, and should probably lose some weight, but it'd make the tatoo screw up. Oh, and we saw an ECW One Night Stand promo. Guess they're not gonna make an angle out of it. Christian then comes out and does a rap.

6. Heavyweight Title
Batista (c) vs Triple H
My Prediction: Batista
Result: Batista
Match Rating: 8/10 - I actually thought we might have a no contest here, but it was nice to see a proper finish. Trips Pedigreed the ref after the match, whilst Batista laughed in his face.

Meh, nothing special as an event. I blame the very small card.

Reefer, how can you give the Tag Team match 8/10 when it only got interesting towards the end?

And Jericho, Benjamin 9/10? It was good but it was more like an 8. You gave the HBK, Angle match at Wrestlemania 8.5/10 and that was waaaaaayy better than Jericho, Benjamin.

I agree with everything Kawada said, seeing as we discussed most of it on Messenger whilst watching the show...

Shelton/Jericho was definately my favourite match of Backlash... I'd even go as far as saying its probably one of my favourite matches of the year so far. Amazing match. Edge/Benoit was quite good too, although not as good as it should've been.

Vis/Kane wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, I suppose... It wasn't good, but it was quite funny at times.

Batista/HHH was average and now hopefully Batista will go on to face some new challengers. I'm fed up of seeing Triple H in the title picture.

Hogan & Micheals/Hassan & Daivari was also average but the atmosphere seemed amazing which made up for it a little bit..

The only outcome of a match that surprised me was the Tag-Team turmoil. I never expected Hurricane and Rosey to win the titles, although it's good to see that they have.

Overall, good PPV. Although Captain Charisma really should have had a match!

Gah far, far too generous. Let me give the critical New Yorker view on things, probably the toughest group of people to please in the world.

Jericho vs Benjamin - Nice of Vince to put this on first so we can get the decent match out the way and all go to bed, fortunately for Vince he gets an extra viewing figure from me thanks to the baseball being on late so i get to watch the first 2 hours of this crap event. Anyway onto the match, pretty much what i expected, alot of good wrestling and high spots between a rare breed of people in the WWE at the moment - talented wrestlers. However i'm sure Sabin was calling 911 to report a theft of his move, try watching TNA King then you'll have seen that before. Still impressive though. Would have preferred Jericho with the strap but can't have everything.

Match Rating - 8/10

Tag team turmoil - Note to the booking team - giving them exotic sounding names doesn't mean Romeo and Antonio will be any less ugly. Those idiots get eliminated early and Nova and Mr Eyebrows come out. I thought Eyebrows and Nova were going to win this but seeing them come out this early in the thing soon did away with any hopes of that as Nova gets kicked in the face. La Resistance charge down to the ring making them probably the first french men in history to actually run towards a fight, oh wait they're Canadian now, silly me. Champs get eliminated which is pretty dumb booking, either have them knocked out first or last, in the middle is just wrong. Then the superheroes come out and get the win Kash and whatever that Diesel alike's name is in TNA style, good to see Helms get a strap and the push Rocky gave him finally bearing fruition. Still doesn't stop it being a boring match.

Match rating - 4/10 (2 of those thanks to Tajiri's kicks, one point for Nova's tracksuit and 1 point for La Resistance running to the ring so i can make a french joke :-D)

Benoit vs Edge - HATE last man standing matches, far too much waiting around while the guy gets counted and thanks to Hebner taking his sweet time throughout the match made it even worse. Least it allowed King to make some actually funny comments *geez all Benoit has to do is raise an eyebrow and the ref will stop the count*
Couple of good spots with Benoit into the aluminum trashcan lid and jumping off the ladder. Stupid finish though, firstly hitting a guy with a brick? Ermmm Vince that would usually kill someone or at least put them down for ages with some blood oozing out, yet Benoit with his magical powers of revival was back up within 2 minutes, he sure does have a hard head. Please don't let this be a start of another concussion angle. Secondly Edge making it blindingly obvious he hit Benoit with his forearm, not a wise choice of camera angles production team.

Match rating 4/10 (2 marks each for the trashcan shot and ladder spots and another 3 just because it's Benoit, minus 3 however thanks to the waiting around for Hebners slow counts)

Cue Lita and Kane promo *WE WANT MATT!!!* ahem sorry. Strange how only a couple months ago she was terrified of him and hated his guts, now she's slapping him in the lip lock of death. Then we get treated to another Mabel and Trish segment. The big man wants to get down to some 'bid-ness', i just want the baseball to start. Both horrible segments. 1/10 (1 point just because i love the bid-ness :-D)

Kane vs King of Ring winner 1995 (just thought i'd throw that into the mix :-D) King Mabel. Obviously the contender for show stealer here as we're greeted with two technically gifted ath ........... ah fudge it, horrible match, slow, crap and boring, should be the WWE's new slogan that. Kane gets the win but no one cares as they've all gone to get some refreshments and merchandise. Trish then gets back in the ring, talks some trash and hits Mabel where it hurts with a vicious insult on his love for the chicken. This obviously hurts the big man's feelings as he gets down to some pre-bidness with a big old hug, but obviously Vis likes it rough. Followed by a big splash and Vis is done and goes to the back for a cigarette. We then get treated to some expert knowledge from the WWE medical team *roll her like a log*, them medical degrees must just be getting handed out nowadays.

Match rating 0/10 Mabel 'bidness' rating 10/10. Thank god that's over .... hopefully.

The balding egomaniacs vs the offensive gimmick meisters, should also be another 5 star classic. Pretty much what i expected, squash early on, bit of cheating with a lead pipe (ermmm what? just totally random that was, no sense at all) Michaels gets all the punishment until Hogan's pacemaker kicks in and then we get the win followed by 10 minutes of posing. Nice to see Hogan back once more, come back next year or something for another last match when Vince waves that cash at you.

Match rating 3/10 (2 just because it's Hogan and an extra point thanks to the sign in the crowd that said *Daivari mania is running wild*)

Get treated to some highlights of E-C-Dub!!! promoting the One Night Stand PPV, the 1 minute highlight segment alone of E-C-Dub!!! is better than about 3 months of WWE shows.

Ah finally someone to bring this crap fest back up to the standard of the first match as Captain Charisma, ably assisted by the gorgeous Tiresome Botchko, make their way down to the squared circle. We get treated to a rap from the Charismatic one which is better than anything Cena has done since his face turn. Special mark out for the Trips comment, that's Christian being suppressed before heading off to Smackdown then. Botchko adds his unique blend of charisma to the proceedings mid rap and CC heads off to the back. Segment rating 10/10 (you all wish you had him in your fed :-D)

We then have to wait to be subjected to the 'most anticipated rematch in history', oooooh i didn't know Daniels and Styles were wrestling tonight ......... oh no it's HHH vs Batista, silly me. Not looking good 35 minutes to go with only this to come, Batista can barely wrestle a 3 minute match, signs aren't good.

But luckily Vince has a plan, 10 minute entrance time ensues. Ah good, only about 20 minutes then seeing as i doubt this will end at 3 hours on the dot. Still 17 minutes too long for Batista and about 40 minutes too short for HHH and his ego.
Only shocking thing about this match is that HHH didn't do the blade job, only JBL has lost more claret this year. Obviously saving it up for when he becomes 11 time champ next month or something unless by some miracle HHH after losing twice now fades out the title picture ............. yea didn't think so either. Mr Charisma Batista struggles through the match to get the victory, obviously didn't fear the Pedigree, we all know he's terrified of a microphone though, even with Monty Brown giving him promo tips. Oh and Trips, you're not the truth, nice to see you've been watching some TNA though.

Match rating 2/10. (all for Flair) Dire for something that's meant to be the main event and the best wrestlers they have on offer.

Backlash rating 3/10. 2 Points for the Jericho vs Benjamin match and another point for Captain Charisma. Even Destination X with it's world record for most interference during a match was better than this. Must try harder Vince.

It was the right result for me in the Intercontinental title match. There is no point in Y2J having that title at the moment. Benjamin is showing why he is going to be a star, although I was a little disappointed that the crowd didn't really warm to him. Benjamin was working his socks off and Y2J was getting all the chants. :D

The tag division is dead at the moment. The match felt pretty lifeless until Hurricane and Rosey came in and even then that was over quick. Hurricane has been Triple H's whipping boy for about 8 months. Will he have someone new to pick on? A good switch for the titles but the lack of real quality opposition will hurt them.

Last Man Standing matches I don't like. Everything becomes disjointed when one of them is waiting for a 10 count, which is usually pretty slow. Edge had to win it because I would assume that he'll have a programme with the champ soon.

Switched over when Kane had his backstage segment and stayed over because I had a feeling that match was next.

Turned back to it to catch Hogan's entrance. Typical Hogan match of recent years but he really creates an atmosphere, which is great.

Kept flicking over during the Batista/HHH match. Wasn't so great from what I saw. The end was just terrible with constant interference from Flair, ref bumps, laying the champ out with one Pedigree for at least a 20 count and Batista coming out with can only be described as a move out of nowhere, although you could see it coming.

Match of the night = Benjamin V Y2J
PPV rating = Slightly disappointing. Started great and began to fade, picking up briefly with the Hogan segment and Christian.

1. Intercontinental Title
Shelton Benjamin (c) vs Chris Jericho
My Prediction: Chris Jericho
Result: Shelton Benjamin
Match Rating: 9/10 -

I agree with Reefer here, i thought this match was really good and it got things rolling quite well. Just a shame Jericho didnt win, Benjamin has had that title too long now. Making me wish I hadn't voted for him at Taboo Tuesday. He is a great athlete and all, but i would like to see Y2J with the title again. Jericho keeps getting jobbed to Benjamin. He deserves a win every once in a while.

2. Tag Title Turmoil
William Regal & Tajiri (c) vs The Heart Throbs vs Hurricane & Rosey vs La Resistance vs Maven & Simon Dean
My Prediction: Regal & Tajiri
Result: Hurricane & Rosey
Heart Throbs eliminated by Regal & Tajiri
Maven & Simon Dean eliminated by Regal & Tajiri
Regal & Tajiri eliminated by La Resistance
La Resistance eliminated by Hurricane & Rosey
Match Rating: 8/10 - Again i agree with Reefer, i thought this was also a great match. Is this the opening for Eugenes return now? I have always though Hurricane and Rosey are made to lose too much and they do deserve a title reign. Lets just hope they don't lose the gold straight away tonight!

3. Last Man Standing
Chris Benoit vs Edge
My Prediction: Edge
Result: Edge
Match Rating: 7/10 - I thought this match was a bit better than OK, although i did get bored with how many times the referee counted to 8 or 9. I especially liked the suicide dive being met with the trash can lid, the headbutt off the ladder (even though it missed).

4. Kane vs Viscera
My Prediction: Viscera
Result: Kane
Match Rating: 7/10 - Haha, we were thinking along the same lines, as much as i like Kane i also wanted him to lose, just to see what happens with Trish. As it happens i am glad he won because i liked what happened after the match with the bearhug and the big splash! I think Viscera left the ring a lot more popular than when he entered!

5. Hulk Hogan & Shawn Michaels v Muhammed Hassan & Kosorrow Daivari
My Prediction: Hulk Hogan & Shawn Michaels
Result: Hulk Hogan & Shawn Michaels
Match Rating: 8/10 - Never really much doubt about the outcome here. Good match though, glad to see Hogan back. They built the suspense up for a while before they played his music though! Another over-long celebration, but who cares it's Hulk Hogan! That dudes tattoo was good, i liked what King said about "wow look...a moving tattoo...it jiggles" or something like that.

I liked Christians raps, probably because i like Christian and it really looks like they are pushing him to go to Smackdown. Maybe if someone else leaves RAW for Smackdown in the draft and Bischoff wants him back then he might trade for Christian. Otherwise the draft will look really fixed!

6. Heavyweight Title
Batista (c) vs Triple H
My Prediction: Batista
Result: Batista
Match Rating: 8.5/10 - This match was pretty good...i liked it when Barista did a backwards roll over the security barrier! I am hoping someone else will go for the title now though. I feel Triple H needs a feud that isn't involved with the World Heavyweight Championship because he has been the champ or no.1 contender for ages. He needs to have a seperate storyline i think so that the World Heavyweight Championship can have some different competiton.

Overall, i think Backlash was decent. None of the matches can really beat last years Foley/Orton match, but it is watchable (even though i fell asleep in the Last Man Standing Match and watched the rest of the PPV this morning!)
