What exactly are the dangers of buying stuff from Hong Kong?

I've been wary of buying stuff from abroad through eBay, don't know why but it just seems that extra little bit unsafe, to me anyway.

I'm looking for buy a phone fascia, and a USB link cable for me mobile and it's a squillion times cheaper from somebody in HK.

Are there any dangers/risks in buying from HK?

And back to Niddle, umm if they have good feedback all I can think of are the compatibility issues to deal with.

E.g the USB cable though i'm no computer expert so it may be reigeon free?
